Standard Bank fixed deposit rates

A fixed deposit page for Standard Bank usually shows a small rate table plus a calculator. The table is built from balance bands and from the choice between interest paid monthly and interest paid at maturity. Reading those two dimensions correctly is the main skill the page asks of you.

Standard Bank fixed deposit rates by term

Rates from Standard Bank's own page, with the day we read it and the day the bank's table took effect.

Sort by any term: press its column heading.

Ordered by the 12-month rate, largest first. Rows without a 12-month term come last, unnumbered.

FNB, Absa, Capitec, TymeBank and Discovery Bank are not in the table: their pages could not be read as a rate table (a security check, a block, or only an 'up to' headline). We print no figure for them.

Balance bands and the two interest options

The table groups balances into bands. Each band is a range, and the rate that applies to you depends on where your deposit falls inside that range. A larger balance inside a higher band normally earns a different rate than a smaller balance in a lower band.

The second dimension is when interest is paid. With monthly payment, interest is credited during the term, so it can be used or reinvested as it arrives. With payment at maturity, interest is held until the end of the term and paid in one amount.

The two options produce different rates because the bank is comparing different cash flows. Paying interest out monthly means the bank does not keep that money for the full term, while paying at maturity means the balance grows until the end. The table shows the outcome of that comparison rather than a single headline rate.

Use the calculator to see how a balance in a chosen band behaves under each payment option. Treat the result as an illustration of the table's logic, not as a quote for your own deposit.

What the page does not show

The table covers only the bands it lists. Larger amounts are handled by application, so they do not appear as rows and their terms are not visible on the page. A reader with a bigger sum will not find a rate for it in the table.

The page also leaves out the conditions attached to the product, such as notice periods, early withdrawal rules and what happens at the end of the term. These details sit in the product terms rather than in the rate rows.

Finally, the page does not compare this product with other savings options. It shows one provider's structure. Any decision about where to place money needs the full terms and a look at alternatives, which the page itself does not supply.

A common mistake

Reading only the top row of the table and assuming it applies to any balance. Check which band your amount falls into, and check whether the rate shown is for monthly payment or payment at maturity.
